Newfoundland, its people, history, culture and geography are my Inspiration.
I hope you enjoy my work
Thank Cod is my latest NL related creation. Head, tail and back spines are made from the hull of a very old fishing ship wreck. The skeleton and rust represent the deterioration of the fishery. But the sturdy steel and circular shape represent the endurance of our people and the cod fishery.
Rowdy Cod is a tribute to The Rowdy Man - Gordon Pinsent the "Supreme Newfoundlander", the deteriorating fishery and the strong resilient people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Made from 100% recycled steel.
The Fishery This sculpture was born at the inaugural Burning Rock Festival on Fogo Island in 2021 with Marc Fiset. It represent the deteriorating fishery and the strength and resilience of this industry and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Backbone made from the hull of an old steel fishing ship. Represents the solid Newfoundland and Labrador people and fishing industry
Pit Fish is made from 100% or recycled steel, represents our main, people, industry and food of Newfoundland and can be seen at Mallard Cottage in iconic Quidi Vidi village in St. John's Newfoundland
“NL Strong” The Pitcher Plant is our provincial flower and seemed appropriate to make this out of steel. It thrives in damp and sometimes harsh weather, strong like steel and the people of our province.
“In Cod We Trust” Is made from the steel left from my other fish sculptures. Just like our traditional ways we use all left over food to make something wonderful and all left over material we make everything from quilts to rugs. In Cod We Trust represents our way off life especially in the shape of our "Fish" which here means Cod. This is my first wall hanger and is about 48" from tip to tail.
